Chief of the Aurora Police Department Todd Chamberlain said on Tuesday that he thinks an incident that happened overnight was “without a doubt a gang incident” and that the suspects and victims were all most likely from Venezuela.
Police in Aurora, Colorado, say that the armed home invasion at an Aurora apartment complex overnight, in which 14 suspects were arrested, was “without a doubt a gang incident.”
Aurora Police said that just before 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, they were called to The Edge at Lowry Apartments in the 1200 block of Dallas Street for a report of an armed home invasion where people were raped and robbed.
At a news conference on Tuesday, Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain said that 13 to 15 people, mostly guys but also some women, broke into an apartment that had two people inside. The suspects are said to have taken the migrants to another flat in the same building, where they were “threatened and bound.”
Police say that one of the victims, a guy, was stabbed but is expected to live. Both of the victims are still in the hospital getting care for their wounds.

At a press meeting in Aurora, Colorado on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain talks to the press. Chief Chamberlain told reporters that the overnight home invasion that led to 14 arrests is likely a “gang incident.” That was Derek Shook for Fox News Digital.
Authorities say that the accused let the victims go at some point, and they then called 911.
“They were whipped with a pistol, hit, and abused,” Chamberlan said. “So does that count as torture for me?” “Yes, it does.”
“Without a doubt, this is a gang crime.” “Yet, I don’t know which gang they belong to,” he said. If Chamberlain had to guess, “there is a high assumption that they may be affiliated with the TdA [Tren de Aragua] gang,” he would have said which gang it was because he wasn’t sure yet.
An event that went viral this summer took place at The Edge at Lowry Apartments. Armed TdA officers were seen in the hallways and stairwells. TdA is a well-known gang in Venezuela.

“We have focused on that area extensively,” Chamberlain said of the apartment complex, adding that it’s likely that some of the people seen on the summer video have already left.
