16-Year-Old Killed, Another Man Critically Injured in DC Shooting


WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy and left an adult man critically injured on Friday afternoon in Southeast Washington.

Officers from the Seventh District responded to reports of gunshots in the 2800 block of Langston Place SE at approximately 4:16 p.m. Upon arrival, they found two victims — an adult male and a juvenile male — both suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported both victims to nearby hospitals, where the juvenile, identified as 16-year-old Darren Johnson of Southeast DC, was pronounced dead.

The adult male remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said.


Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9099 or to send an anonymous text to 50411. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
