18-year-old Knocked Dead by Subway Train in New York City; Was Running to Avoid a Fight on Platform with another Teen

A tragic incident occurred on Monday morning when a young man lost his life after getting hit by a subway train in Queens. The unfortunate event took place after he tried to escape from a fight with another teenager inside a station.

A fight broke out on the platform inside the Elmhurst Ave station in Elmhurst at around 11 a.m. before a tragic incident unfolded, according to the police.

An 18-year-old individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, attempted to flee from a 19-year-old man by running onto the tracks and into a tunnel. According to authorities, the individual unfortunately slipped and fell on the tracks.

He was later struck by a Jamaica-bound F train. Upon arrival, authorities discovered an adolescent individual incapacitated and nonreactive on the railway tracks, situated between the Elmhurst Ave. and the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Ave. stations.

The individual was declared deceased at the station.

As of Monday night, police were still conducting their investigation and no charges had been filed.

Service along the F, M, E and R lines was severely disrupted for most of the day due to a train strike, according to the MTA. Emergency teams and investigators were called in to respond to the situation.

The disruptions and delays persisted throughout the evening rush hour commute, as reported by the transit agency.
