19-Year-Old Charged for Southeast D.C. Shooting of Teen


Washington, DC—A 19-year-old from Hyattsville, Md., has been charged for shooting a 15-year-old in Southeast Washington. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the charges Wednesday.

The incident occurred on January 19, when the victim was shoveling snow with friends and relatives in the neighborhood near 16th Street and A Street SE. Christ Tchakounte, 19, and an accomplice reportedly approached the teen, and Tchakounte shot him three times before fleeing the scene.

The victim survived after months of intensive care. Tchakounte now faces multiple charges, including intent to kill while armed and aggravated assault.
