According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to a shooting call around 4:15 p.m. in the 100 block of South Murdeaux Lane. When officers arrived, they found Matthew Moore, 25, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Moore was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.

“Matt as an athlete, he’s just a coach’s dream,” Chapa said. “Matt worked hard and he inspired everyone he was around.”

Beyond the boxing ring, Moore was remembered most as a devoted father. According to Chapa, Moore often brought his 5-year-old daughter to the gym while training, keeping her close as he worked toward his goals.
“Every other time he was in this gym, he brought his daughter with him,” Chapa said. “She was trailing him all the time.”

As grief filled the gym, Chapa said faith has helped Moore’s loved ones cope with the sudden loss.
“We’re believers. We’re strong in our faith,” he said. “We believe God’s in control, and we’re going to be okay.”
