3 Killed and 9 Injured in South Philadelphia Shooting

Three people were killed and nine others were injured in a shooting in South Philadelphia early Monday, according to police, concluding a bloody Fourth of July weekend that saw over a dozen gunshots and stabbings in the city.

According to the police, the shooting in the Grays Ferry neighborhood shortly before one in the morning claimed the lives of three individuals, ages 19, 23, and 24. Among the injured were two children, a 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl.

The majority of the wounded had been shot in the arms or legs, but according to the authorities, a 19-year-old guy was critically wounded after receiving two gunshot wounds to the head.

Philadelphia Police Department Commissioner Kevin Bethel informed reporters that several shots were fired and that he anticipated a protracted inquiry. There was no information regarding possible suspects made public by the police.

According to Commissioner Bethel, a few dozen persons had been gathered in the vicinity of the shooting site during the holiday weekend. Officers were responding to a nearby incident when they heard gunshots at around one in the morning, he said, adding that officers had been called to the area multiple times for complaints about loud music and disruptions.

The neighbor told All weekend long, the block was the scene of parties, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. According to local resident Tiffany McDaniels, the gunfire usually begins when the party turns wild.

According to the police, an altercation led to the shooting at 7 Elements, a nightclub in South Philadelphia, early on Saturday morning, wounding eight individuals. The nightclub has now been shut down by the city.

A 15-year-old kid was discovered shot and died in a driveway in Northeast Philadelphia on Thursday. In North Philadelphia, a 26-year-old man was shot and murdered on Sunday.

Philadelphia has recently made strides in lowering lethal violence, even in spite of the horrific weekend. As of Sunday, the police reported 120 homicides in 2025, which is 10% fewer than during the same time last year. In 2024, there were 269 homicides in the city, which was the lowest number since 2014 and less than half of 2021’s total.
