Long Beach, CA – Three men have been arrested in connection with a series of ATM thefts from gas stations in Long Beach, authorities announced on Friday. The suspects used a heavy-duty chain and a stolen SUV to pull stand-alone ATMs from various locations, leading to multiple incidents in mid-July.
The Long Beach Police Department revealed that the trio were caught on charges including grand theft, vandalism, burglary, and hit-and-run after a hit-and-run incident involving a female pedestrian resulted in life-threatening injuries.
The Daring ATM Theft Method
Investigators detailed a pattern of criminal activity where the suspects wrapped a large, heavy-duty chain around stand-alone ATMs and attached it to a stolen SUV. They used this setup to forcibly pull the cash machines from their mounts at gas stations, causing significant damage and financial loss.
Key incidents include ATM thefts at gas stations located on Paramount Boulevard and Long Beach Boulevard in mid-July. During the attempted getaway on Long Beach Boulevard, the suspects’ vehicle struck a female pedestrian and fled the scene without providing aid.
Tragic Hit-and-Run Incident
The hit-and-run victim was reported to have sustained life-threatening injuries. This reckless act has intensified the seriousness of the charges against the suspects.
“The suspects not only committed multiple thefts but endangered public safety by abandoning a seriously injured pedestrian,” said a Long Beach Police spokesman.

The suspects have been identified as:
- Luis Torres, 36, of Lynwood
