by Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles South Traffic Division detectives are seeking 24-year-old Sierra Whittaker, who is accused of being the driver in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed 25-year-old Emerson Gonzalez-Escobar on July 5. Authorities are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Whittaker’s arrest.
The crash occurred just after 9 p.m. on the day following Independence Day, and police say it was both violent and deliberate in its aftermath.
Crash Details
Detectives report that Whittaker was driving a white Porsche Panamera at nearly 100 miles per hour when she struck Gonzalez-Escobar. The victim was waiting to make a left turn, allowing an ambulance to pass, when the collision occurred.
The crash was fatal, and Gonzalez-Escobar died at the scene. Eyewitnesses captured cellphone video showing Whittaker and two passengers removing their belongings from the car instead of assisting the victim. One bystander confronted the group in the video, asking why they hadn’t helped Gonzalez-Escobar, prompting Whittaker to confront the person recording.
Suspect Profile and Investigation
LAPD Detective Ryan Moreno stated that Whittaker is a known prostitute who frequently travels to Las Vegas. She is also reportedly known in Orange County, California.
“From what we’re hearing, a lot of people know who she is. We’re hoping that today, once we release these video images of the suspect, someone will know her, know her whereabouts and tell us where she’s at,” Moreno said.
Investigators have released video images of the suspect and are urging the public to help locate her. Whittaker could face murder charges depending on the outcome of the investigation.

The victim’s family is reportedly devastated by the tragedy and upset that neither Whittaker nor her passengers checked on Gonzalez-Escobar after the crash.
“We really appreciate the public’s help, and Emerson’s family would appreciate it, too,” Moreno said. “We’re trying to give closure to the family and kind of bring a little bit of justice for them, for Emerson.”
