Californians will spend more on their Thanksgiving meal than other Americans, as is the case with most aspects of life.
My handy spreadsheet examined MoneyGeek’s analysis of Thanksgiving meal expenses in 106 major cities, including six in California, for a six-person gathering. The expenses included a 10-pound turkey, side dishes of mashed potatoes, stuffing, bread rolls, peas, and corn, as well as drinks.
Topline
The average Turkey Day lunch in California costs $138.95, which includes $17.05 for the chicken and $121.90 for the sides.
The average feast in the 100 other US meters that were followed costs $129.78, which is 7% less than California. The turkey costs $14.67, which is 14% less, and the sides cost $115.11, which is 6% less.

Holiday spreads are also more reasonably priced for citizens of California’s two economic rivals, which exacerbates the state’s economic dyspepsia.

Twelve-meter Texans will spend $128.26 on their feast, which is 8% less than the Golden State, thanks to a 15% reduction in the price of the turkey at $14.53 and a 7% reduction in the price of the sides at $113.72.
A little holiday happiness, huh? You might be dining in the most expensive metropolis, Honolulu. The cost of Thanksgiving there is $160.73. The turkey (No. 30 of the 106) costs $18.52, and the sides (No. 1) cost $142.21.
