Investigators seek help identifying suspect in Cumberland tire shop arson

Cumberland, Maryland.According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, authorities are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect who was seen on camera igniting a tire store early on Saturday morning.

Around 4:42 a.m., a bystander reported the fire, which happened at D&K Tires on Greene Street. The two-bay auto repair shop at 638 Greene Street had flames pouring from a window when the Cumberland Fire Department and nearby crews arrived. Although firefighters managed to confine the incident to an office area, the store suffered substantial water damage, smoke, and soot damage, resulting in losses estimated at $50,000.

Investigators looked at CCTV footage that showed the suspect at around 4:30 a.m. strolling along Greene Street from the area of the Dollar General. After stopping at the building’s side and setting a flammable object on top of a window air conditioner on fire, the suspect carefully made his way toward Greene Street.

The suspect is characterized as a large-built, Caucasian male who is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was dressed in a flannel shirt and loose-fitting slacks, probably sweatpants. The defendant appeared to stagger or walk with a limp, according to investigators who observed that his gait was uneven.
