PHARR, TX On November 22, 2024, authorities at the Texas border seized a cargo of cocaine valued at over $880,000. Ingeniously, the cocaine was hidden inside a truck that was transporting broccoli from Mexico. For drug trafficking organizations trying to bring illegal narcotics into the United States, the finding is a serious setback.

Customs Officers Uncover the Cocaine Shipment

A tractor-trailer entering from Mexico was halted for examination by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility. The car, which was carrying broccoli, was selected for additional examination. Officers discovered 28 goods concealed inside the truck during a physical search. 65.96 pounds of suspected cocaine, valued at $880,725 on the black market, were found in the shipments.

“Our frontline CBP officers continue to exercise resolute vigilance, utilize their training, experience, and technology, and the end result is this significant seizure of cocaine,” said Carlos Rodriguez, port director of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, highlighting the effectiveness of their work.

Investigation and Law Enforcement Efforts Continue

The truck, trailer, and drugs were seized by the CBP Office of Field Operations following the discovery of the cocaine. Agents from Homeland Security Investigations have now started a criminal investigation to find out where the narcotics cargo came from and what the aim was.

The seizure serves as a reminder of how important border security is in stopping the flow of illegal products and drugs into American streets.
