Boston Suffolk County prosecutors announced a two-year prison term for a man who assaulted a woman and attempted to run her over with his vehicle after she ignored his good morning greeting.
The incident happened on July 13 outside the victim’s house on Balsam Street in Boston’s Dorchester district. The man, later identified as Atkinson, became angry when she did not respond to him, the woman, who was watering her plants in her yard at around nine in the morning, informed police. Before he got into a black Mercedes, he allegedly said, “You crazy b–, you should say hello when people say good morning.”
According to the prosecution, Atkinson got out of the car and attacked the woman after she started filming him on her iPhone. He shoved her against a fence, repeatedly beat her in the face, and only stopped when she bit him to protect herself. After that, Atkinson got back in his vehicle and drove in the direction of the victim, barely avoiding her, before he left the area.
The girl had obvious bruises on her face and head and was bleeding from a broken nose when the cops arrived. To identify and track down Atkinson, detectives used video evidence and a GPS monitor he was wearing from a previous arrest. A few days later, he was taken into custody.
According to a statement from Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden, the victim’s lovely summer morning turned into a violent and terrible experience for the most mysterious of reasons. He commended the victim’s fortitude, pointing out that her prompt decision to document the incident served as crucial evidence in the case.
