New Jersey’s Freehold. Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation and asking the public for information that could result in an arrest three years after a jogger was attacked and sexually assaulted in broad daylight on the Henry Hudson Trail in Big Brook Park, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said Tuesday.
About 100 feet off the route near its eastern end at Boundary Road in Marlboro Township, the assault happened on November 4, 2021, at around 11:30 a.m. The victim, an adult lady, was jogging when she saw a man stretching close by, according to investigators. She fell on the ground as the man attacked her a few moments later.
According to the authorities, the guy exposed himself and sexually assaulted the woman after causing minor cuts to her arms with a box cutter-style knife. After that, the suspect left the area in an unidentified way.
The suspect is described as a tan Caucasian male who weighs about 240 pounds and is approximately 6 feet tall. He may be of Eastern European ancestry. At the time of the incident, he was apparently dressed in sweatpants and a dark hooded sweater. Additionally, police have identified a number of unique characteristics, such as a distinctive neck tattoo, a prominent scar on one ear, and light facial hair. To help with the investigation, the New Jersey State Police have made a composite sketch of the suspect and his tattoo public.
According to Prosecutor Santiago, this inquiry has involved hundreds of hours of labor and follow-up on over two dozen leads. We continue to hold out hope and faith that someone, somewhere, has information that could help us track down the perpetrator of this egregious and blatant act of sexual abuse.
Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Michael Pecoraro of the Marlboro Township Police Department at 732-536-0100 or Detective Kayla Santiago of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 800-533-7443. Monmouth County Crime Stoppers is another source for anonymous tips.
Authorities are still determined to identify the perpetrator of this heinous crime even after years have passed without an arrest.
