Four arrested after early morning burglary attempt in Westfield, police say




WESTFIELD, N.J. — Following an attempted break-in on the 500 block of Benson Place, Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro reported early Saturday morning that four people had been arrested.

At at 4:28 a.m. on November 23, a homeowner called 911 to report that two people in black clothing—one of whom was wearing a ski mask—were trying to enter his house through a garage window. The homeowner watched security footage and called the police after the attempt set off the home’s burglar alarm.

While on patrol, Detective Andres Jaramillo spotted a dark Audi parked close by on Stevens Avenue. When he looked inside, he discovered two people attempting to hide in the front seats and two more in the back passenger seat. The two people in the backseat matched the suspects on the homeowner’s CCTV tape, according to additional investigation.

A 17-year-old boy and 18-year-old Imanni Williams, both from Newark, were identified as the suspects in the backseat. Gloves, a ski mask, and burglary tools were found inside the car. The alarm was set off when police discovered that the two had tried to force open a garage door before prying open a window with a tool.

Third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal trespass, and fourth-degree criminal mischief are among the allegations against Williams and the male juvenile.
