Allegheny County Police Charge Two in Phone Scam Case

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Two Californians have been accused by Allegheny County Police in connection with a phone scam that preyed on an elderly person in Pennsylvania. When Crafton Borough Police requested assistance from the General Investigations Unit of the Allegheny County Police Department on November 21, the initial investigation got underway. They discovered that con artists posing as the Amazon Fraud Department had gotten in touch with a 71-year-old woman.

The victim was told by the scammers that her account was linked to more than $360,000 in illegal purchases. For protection, they told her to drain her bank account. The con artists pretended to be law enforcement officers and persuaded the victim to exchange her bank assets for gold coins in exchange for a check for a new account.

Together with the victim and the FBI, investigators carried out an operation Wednesday that led to the arrest of two suspects. The inmates are from California and are identified as Daxue Yang, 35, and Shuai Jiao, 34.

Among the many counts against the defendant are financial exploitation of an elderly person, theft by deceit, and theft by unlawful taking. Both were then accused and arraigned.
