Who says having fun in the cold has to cost a fortune? You won’t have to spend a fortune on these warm, amusing, and humorous activities!#WinterFun #Family #Lifestyle #News
ST. PAUL, MN Last winter, my husband Jack and I made the inexpensive decision to embrace the Minnesota cold. We decided to look for alternatives to spend winter together without breaking the bank because we were both sick of the typical commotion of paying for expensive excursions.
We were bundled up and smiling one afternoon as we raced down a hill on our old sleds, remembering winters as kids. The finest aspect? We made no purchases. One of our favorite winter days was that one.
Here are five inexpensive winter entertainment ideas that will keep you warm and occupied throughout the season if you’re searching for ways to experience the warm, magical vibe of winter without breaking the bank.
1. Sledding and Snow Play
A traditional winter pastime that is enjoyable and essentially cost-free is sledding. There’s something joyful and nostalgic about throwing snowballs with loved ones, whether you’re racing down the closest hill. Last year, Jack and I discovered a little hill in a nearby park, where we enjoyed the snow and fresh air for hours.
It’s the ideal approach to get some exercise and get rid of any wintertime blues. The experience was further enhanced when we cuddled up with blankets and drank hot cocoa in the comfort of our own home.
2. DIY Winter Movie Night
Staying inside is sometimes the greatest way to spend a chilly evening. One of the least expensive ways to pass a cold night is to host a do-it-yourself movie night at home. To enjoy a fantastic movie, you don’t need to go to the cinema! Simply gather some blankets, light some popcorn, and create a comfortable nook on your sofa.
You may create the ideal winter evening by adding your favorite winter classics, such as The Polar Express or Home Alone, which is my personal favorite. Even after the holidays, we frequently switch on our Christmas tree’s sparkling lights to create the atmosphere for a magical, inexpensive movie marathon.
3. Ice Skating at Local Rinks
Another great, low-cost winter pastime is ice skating, particularly if you live close to a municipal rink. A lot of outdoor rinks have inexpensive admission prices, and some even let you skate for free! Jack and I enjoy walking to the neighborhood rink and skating around there.
There’s something quite comfortable about being out in the cold winter air, wrapped up, and skating hand in hand, even if you’re not very good at it. After that, we frequently grab a hot beverage at a local coffee shop to warm up before leaving for home.
4. Winter Hiking or Snowshoeing
To appreciate the splendor of winter’s natural landscapes, you don’t need to go skiing. If you live close to a park or nature reserve, winter hiking or snowshoeing is a great way to experience the outdoors. Last year, Jack and I established it a weekend routine to bundle up and hike through the icy woods after finding a few routes that are available all year long.
Nothing compares to feeling the crunch of snow beneath your boots, and the quiet of wintertime nature is serene and soothing. All you need is a nice pair of shoes (and perhaps some borrowed snowshoes if there’s enough snow!) and the best part is that this pastime is frequently free.
5. Hot Chocolate and Game Night with Friends
Having some friends over for a night of games, snacks, and hot chocolate is the epitome of coziness. Rather than spending money at an expensive restaurant or bar, throw a pleasant, low-key party of your own. We enjoy playing traditional card games, board games, and even puzzles while enjoying hot chocolate with whipped cream.
Making a batch of hot cocoa for guests is simple because Jack and I always have a couple packets on hand. It’s a laid-back and reasonably priced way to hang out with friends without having to leave the house.
