However, the victim stopped cooperating with first responders when he was being readied for transport. The individual refused to be taken by helicopter, according to the Hartford Fire Department. Consequently, the patient was not returned with the helicopter. Rather, the man was taken by ambulance to the trauma center in St. Louis, which is about 20 miles distant.
