Winona, Minnesota Last week, a fierce fire destroyed the Minnesota Equestrian Center in Winona, Minnesota, leaving a local family homeless and saddened over the holiday season. Firefighters fought for more than eight hours to preserve what they could as the building was consumed by flames. Unfortunately, the family’s attached home and barn were totally destroyed, but the arena was spared. With only the clothing on their backs, Jose, Bethany, and their two small children left their house early on Thursday morning.

The Motas Lose Everything in the Blaze

The Minnesota Equestrian Center’s barn manager, Jose Mota, and his family lost everything in the fire. The family didn’t have time to collect anything when the fire started because they resided in the house that was connected to the horse facility. Only the clothing they were wearing when they fled was left to them after the fire destroyed their house and possessions.

Fortunately, the family was safe, but it was a devastating loss as two horses and one cat died in the fire. The Motas residence and one of the barns were completely destroyed, but the arena itself was spared thanks to the hard efforts of firefighters throughout the night to stop the fire from spreading.

Fundraiser Gains Momentum to Help the Mota Family Rebuild

Following the tragedy, a community campaign has raised a substantial amount of money to assist the Motas in rebuilding their lives. The GoSendGo campaign has received more than $27,000 in a few days, almost reaching the family’s $30,000 target. Missy Rivers organized the event, which has grown to represent the generosity of our community as people from Winona and beyond band together to lend a hand.
