Utica police arrest driver after vehicle pursuit and discovery of ghost gun




UTICA, N.Y. Officers found a loaded ghost pistol in a nearby dumpster after apprehending a 23-year-old man who had escaped a traffic stop early Thursday morning, according to the Utica Police Department.

Around 12:30 in the morning, a Patrol Division officer tried to pull over a car for suspected traffic infractions close to the intersection of Noyes Street and City Street. The car stopped at first, but when the police got closer, the driver took off.

The car was eventually found by officers in the 1400 block of Noyes Street, seemingly disabled. The driver left two passengers behind and fled on foot as the police drew closer. There was no other evidence found within the car, but a loaded 9mm magazine was recovered on the passenger floorboard.

Officers followed the man to the grounds of the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center with the help of security footage and personnel. A 9mm ghost gun was discovered during a follow-up search after he was discovered hiding next to a dumpster. The previously recovered magazine was identified by the police as belonging to the firearm.

Quamire Palmer, the suspect, was taken into custody and charged with both criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
