Erie declares snow emergency as winter storm blankets city

Pa. ERIE. Heavy snowfall continues to affect the area, prompting Mayor Joseph Schember to proclaim a snow emergency for the City of Erie, which will be in place Friday and remain through the weekend.

In order to guarantee that plows can efficiently clear roadways and emergency vehicles can travel safely, the emergency declaration enforces Odd-Even parking rules through Saturday and Sunday. On odd-numbered days, residents are encouraged to park on the north or west side of the street; on even-numbered days, they are encouraged to park on the south or east side.

According to the Erie Police Department, cars that break the rules will be ticketed and towed. In order to make place for plows, residents in cul-de-sacs are urged to use driveways, while those in locations without odd-even parking are asked to park on one side of the roadway.

To aid with the clearance of snow, authorities are also requesting that citizens refrain from needless travel and, whenever feasible, avoid city streets.

Residents can check the city’s website or follow @CityofEriePA on social media for information on the city’s snow operations and winter weather policies.

As Erie prepares for more snowfall over the weekend, the announcement was made.
