Maryland attorney general investigates fatal Howard County police shooting

Laurel, M.D. When Howard County police officers shot a man dead during a domestic disturbance call on Saturday afternoon, the Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) is looking into the incident.

After receiving allegations of a domestic disturbance, officers arrived at a property in the 10,000 block of American Pharoah Lane at approximately 3:10 p.m. Officers found an adult male suspect with a long gun inside the house and a female victim on a higher ledge outside, according to body camera footage.

According to authorities, two officers fired their weapons when the subject repeatedly refused to drop the weapon. Officers discovered the suspect dead when they entered the house. At the scene, investigators found six weapons and several bullet casings from an unknown weapon. Authorities are still unsure if the suspect’s own weapon or police gunfire was responsible for the fatal injuries.

According to authorities, no policemen were hurt during the incident, and three additional residents of the house were safely evacuated.

The IID has taken over the investigation in accordance with Maryland law, and it will provide more updates as the matter develops. The division is receiving all questions.
