A car struck a power pole close to the intersection of Cedar Grove Road and Northampton Boulevard, bringing it down and strewing live wires all over the road. Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) technicians and emergency personnel were sent to the area to evaluate the damage and start repairs.
Approximately 4,200 Toms River customers lost power as a result of the collision, according to JCP&L. Although officials cautioned residents that repairs could take several hours, crews are attempting to restore service.
While first responders and utility personnel cleared the area and started rebuilding the damaged pole, police blocked off a portion of Cedar Grove Road. Information regarding the motorist involved in the collision and the possible cause of the accident has not been made public by the authorities.
