WHITING, New Jersey. On Friday night, firefighters responded to a residential quadplex fire in Whiting. The fire started with flames piercing the roof, and the quick, multi-agency response prevented injuries and limited damage to one unit.
After receiving numerous 911 calls, Assistant Chief 3310 upgraded the incident to a full box alarm after the fire broke out in the quadplex on Township Line Road. While 3310 took leadership, Chief 3300 was the first to arrive on the scene, verified that there was a strong fire, and started interior operations right once.
The seven-person crew of Engine 3301 performed main searches, fire suppression, and forced entry. According to officials, the firefighters’ vigorous efforts made sure the fire was contained within the original unit. Every resident was there and there were no reported injuries, and the quadplex’s principal searches turned up nothing.
Local crews from Station 33 and mutual aid from Stations 67, 32, 34, 20, 60, 17, 62, and 39 were among the responding agencies. By midnight, all crews were back in service once the units had cleared the area.
The Manchester Police Department and Ocean County Fire Marshal are still looking into what caused the fire.
