DOUGLAS COUNTY, MN A driver was captured driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 94 in Douglas County, Minnesota, early on Thanksgiving morning. Around 3:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office received many complaints of a car traveling west in the eastbound lanes close to Mile Marker 106. Deputies arrived on the scene promptly and used patrol cars to block the car in order to avoid a potential collision.

High Blood Alcohol Content Leads to Arrest

Officers saw obvious evidence of impairment when they made contact with the driver. The driver’s blood alcohol content (BAC), as determined by a breathalyzer test, was over three times the legal limit.

The BAC was around three and a half times higher than the legal driving level, according to the sheriff’s office. One of the patrol cars was damaged during the incident, and the driver was slightly hurt.

Holiday Warnings and Safety Reminders

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reminded the public of the risks of driving while intoxicated as the holiday season approaches.

In a Facebook post, the office noted that statistics indicate a rise in alcohol-related collisions and DWI arrests over the holidays. Throughout the winter, they advised everyone to slow down, drive carefully, and make plans in advance for a sober ride.
