Baltimore, Maryland Reunited decades after sharing a middle school classroom, a retired instructor and his former pupil won two 2025 Ravens season tickets through the Maryland Lottery’s Ravens Second-Chance Promotion.
On October 15, the winners were revealed as Alex Wroblewski, a retired Baltimore teacher, and John Kirby, a Brooklyn Park construction worker. As John looked over the list of winners, he instantly recognized Alex as his old teacher from Francis Scott Key Middle School, where he had attended in the early 2000s as a sixth-grader.
Two premium season tickets for the 2025 Ravens, a parking pass for every game, and $250 in Ravens Bucks—which may be spent on stadium food and merchandise—are all included in the lottery win. At Maryland Lottery headquarters, the two winners reconnected and shared memories of their time in school.
While Alex reflected on his teaching career and expressed pride in seeing former pupils achieve, John saw Alex as stern but effective. He reminisced about using arithmetic problems and pie slices as rewards to inspire his kids.
Both winners had contributed non-winning Ravens scratch-offs to their My Lottery Rewards accounts in order to participate in the second-chance contest. According to Alex, who retired in 2010, he applied for several promotions and was taken aback when he was selected.
