Maryland task force dismantles illegal car rallies, arrests five, including four juveniles

Md. Pikesville. During an overnight blitz on Saturday, November 30, the Maryland automobile Rally Task Force coordinated an operation that resulted in the demolition of 10 unlawful automobile rallies and the arrest of five people, including four juveniles.

The events, which attracted hundreds of participants and onlookers, were held around Baltimore City and many counties, including Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Howard, and Prince George’s, according to authorities. Between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m., the task force—with assistance from state and local law enforcement—was able to successfully interrupt these massive exhibition-driving activities.

At a rally in Baltimore’s 5100 block of Park Avenue, where some 300 people and cars had blocked roads for risky driving maneuvers, all five arrests were made. Josue Emanuel Hernandez Cordon, 18, of Laurel, Maryland, was taken into custody by police on suspicion of reckless driving and possessing a replica weapon.

Authorities found two stolen cars in the same vicinity: a black Camaro SS and a Nissan 370Z. After trying to escape, four minors, ages 15 to 17, were taken into custody. Police believe the Camaro may have been connected to previous vehicle rallies and a recent armed robbery in Washington, D.C. Two guns were also found in the car by the officers.

A multi-agency alliance called the Maryland Car Rally Task Force stressed the value of ongoing cooperation in tackling the state’s escalating problem of illegal exhibition driving.
