Democrats Say FBI is Not Politically Fueled Against Americans

In response to charges made against the FBI, Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin said on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday that he has not seen any proof that the agency has been used as a weapon against a political party. This announcement coincides with President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement that he plans to appoint Kash Patel to succeed FBI Director Christopher Wray, noting Patel’s compatibility with Trump’s agenda.

  • Raskin argued that accusations of FBI politicization lack proof, citing recent federal charges brought against Democratic officials.
  • Trump s decision to nominate Kash Patel follows Republican criticism of Wray s alleged bias in investigations, including those involving Hunter Biden.
  • The FBI has faced scrutiny over its handling of politically sensitive cases, with declining public trust highlighted by recent controversies.
  • Raskin acknowledged historical misuse of the FBI, such as during the Civil Rights Movement, but defended the agency s current independence.
  • Wray s leadership was further questioned after an assassination attempt targeting Trump, adding to Republican calls for new leadership.

House Dem Flatly Denies Any Proof FBI Was Weaponized Against A Political Party

Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, criticized President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of Kash Patel as his FBI director on CNN Sunday, saying he had not seen evidence that the FBI was being used as a weapon against a certain political party.

Patel, who Trump said would help the FBI end the growing crime epidemic in America, dismantle the migrant criminal gangs, and stop the evil scourge of human and drug trafficking across the border, was announced on Saturday as the replacement for current FBI Director Christopher Wray, whom he appointed during his first term. Guest host Kasie Hunt started the State of the Union by inquiring about Raskin’s response to Trump’s selection.

Since he has stated that he was appointed by a Republican, Christopher Wray is undoubtedly a Republican. He has, however, reportedly shown too much independence and objectivity in his work for Donald Trump, who prefers a personal loyalist in the role, which is why he chose Kash Patel, Raskin added.

As he listed Democrats who had been charged federally, Hunt then jumped in and asked the Democratic lawmaker if he thought there were any problems within the FBI under its current leadership. Raskin did not deny this in the past, but he asserted that there was no evidence at the time that one party was being singled out.

Observe:

The FBI was actually used as a weapon against Dr. King, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Peace Movement, for instance, during the Cohen-Telpro era. The FBI was essentially exploited as a political tool for decades. According to Raskin, there is a fascinating book by Beverly Gage about J. Edgar Hoover that people can read.

I have not seen any evidence that the FBI has been used as a weapon against the Department of Justice or a political party. Naturally, this Department of Justice has filed charges against a Democratic congressman in Texas and a Democratic U.S. senator in New Jersey. Some individuals simply seem to believe that it should only move in one direction and that it is somehow politicized if it doesn’t. Raskin continued, “I believe that’s what they mean when they talk about politicization in the deep state.” The deep state, that is, has never been defined. It seems to simply refer to anyone who does not follow Donald Trump’s wishes.

With public perceptions of the FBI and DOJ deteriorating, Wray faced heightened criticism following the initial attempt on Trump’s life during his July 13 rally in Pennsylvania. Wray informed legislators during a post-attack meeting with the House Judiciary Committee that there is considerable doubt as to whether former President Trump’s ear was struck by a bullet or shrapnel.

The FBI director has long been accused by Republicans for his suspected political bias in investigations such as Hunter Biden’s. In a July 2022 letter, Republican Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa demanded details from Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland. The letter was in response to claims made by two whistleblowers from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that the DOJ had slowed down criminal investigations into Hunter’s alleged unpaid taxes in 2017 and 2018.
