Two Elizabeth porch pirates charged for thefts in Cranford

CRANFORD, NJ After police looked into the weekend theft of packages containing children’s toys from a Cranford residential porch, two males from Elizabeth, New Jersey, were taken into custody and prosecuted.

Cranford police were called to the 50 block of Elizabeth Avenue at around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2024, when the event took place. The victim said that their front porch had been the scene of multiple thefts of valuable packages. Two unidentified people were seen collecting the goods and driving away in a white compact car on surveillance footage.

Detectives Jason D. Agostino and Michael O. Neil conducted the investigation, and the suspects were found to be Elizabeth residents Imanoll Alzatevargas, 22, and Andres Gonzalezgomez, 26. The defendants were taken into custody and charged with third-degree theft on Monday, December 2.

Police claim that the stolen goods were found and given back to the victim. Dates for both individuals to appear in Superior Court to respond to the allegations have been issued.

Residents have been cautioned by authorities to keep a watchful eye on package deliveries and make sure surveillance systems are operational, particularly during the busy holiday season when thefts are more likely to occur.
