Bradford County man convicted of repeated sexual assault of child

Pennsylvania’s Harrisburg. Following a two-day trial, a Bradford County jury on Tuesday found 43-year-old Matthew Chapman guilty of repeatedly sexually abusing a child, according to the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.

Ridgebury Township resident Chapman was found guilty of indecent assault and child corruption. After a review by the Sexual Offenders Assessment Board, sentencing is set on February 20.

Attorney General Michelle Henry stated in a statement that the defendant repeatedly sexually assaulted a young child who was vulnerable by betraying their trust. My office takes its duty to safeguard children extremely seriously, and we will keep doing everything we can to keep them safe from predators who want to abuse and sexually exploit them.

According to testimony given during the trial, Chapman repeatedly abused the girl while she was asleep. Prosecutors claimed that he had access to her because of his relationship with the child’s family.

The case, which was brought to a close on Tuesday when the jury returned its decision, was prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Rebecca Elo.
