Chicago woman accused of stabbing boyfriend charged with murder, danced during arrest

Chicago Months after the incident and in light of fresh DNA evidence connecting her to the crime, a Chicago woman who was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday was accused of fatally stabbing her lover earlier this year.

Whitney Wilcox, 40, was arrested in relation to the stabbing murder of her lover, 42-year-old Jeremy Rodgers, on February 26. When officers first arrived at the couple’s residence, Wilcox denied responsibility for the stabbing, according to Chicago police. But according to recent court documents, she exhibited strange conduct during her initial detention, including apparently dancing while handcuffed and asking a Google device to play music.

At 2:20 a.m. on the morning of the event, Wilcox called 911, and police arrived. According to reports, she informed dispatchers that Rodgers had been stabbed, but she said she was unsure about the perpetrator. Officers found Rodgers bleeding from an abdomen wound in the bathroom, and Wilcox looked distraught but otherwise clean and blood-free when they arrived at the house. Officers, paramedics, and hospital employees were allegedly informed by Rodgers that Wilcox had stabbed him.

Wilcox subsequently acknowledged the stabbing but stated that it was done in self-defense during a struggle, according to court documents. Wilcox was taken into custody at the scene, and Rodgers eventually passed away from his wounds.

Prosecutors are pursuing the murder case based on physical evidence and Rodgers’ words before to his death, but the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office has not responded to the accusations of Wilcox’s actions during her arrest.

Wilcox is still being held, and her next court date is set for the upcoming weeks.
