In a recent unexpected action, a U.S. citizen who had been avoiding arrest for more than 16 years voluntarily turned himself in at the U.S.-Canada border for desertion from the U.S. Army. The 38-year-old guy entered Niagara Falls, New York’s Port of Buffalo Rainbow Bridge border crossing and declared his intention to turn himself in for military desertion.

The Arrest at Niagara Falls Border Crossing

The person reached the border crossing’s pedestrian walkway on Tuesday. He claimed that because he had deserted from the military years prior, he was turning himself in. He was promptly brought by border officials to a secondary check station for additional confirmation.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials discovered that the man had an active military desertion warrant after verifying his identity. The warrant was entered into the U.S. Army’s National Crime Information Center system.

Collaboration with Law Enforcement to Ensure Accountability

The Area Port Director, Gaetano Cordone, commended the CBP agents’ efforts and underlined their dedication to guaranteeing the security and responsibility of every person entering the United States. “All travelers entering the United States are screened by our officers with great diligence,” he said.

To assist in apprehending fugitives and making sure they are held responsible for their activities, we collaborate closely with a number of law enforcement organizations.

CBP authorities arrested the individual after verifying the warrant. After that, he was moved from the Fort Liberty Provost Marshal’s Office in North Carolina to U.S. Army personnel.
