Albany man killed while trying to move disabled food truck onto side street




NANUET, N.Y. According to the Clarkstown Police Department, a food truck on Prospect Street in Nanuet tragically crashed Thursday afternoon, killing a 44-year-old man from Albany.

At approximately 3:05 p.m., Khurram Shahzad, the driver of a 1994 Grumman food truck, had a technical problem that resulted in the truck stalling. Shahzad parked the truck, got out, and requested a friend who had been following him in another car to assist him pull the truck onto a side street.

The companion got into the truck, put it in neutral, and tried to reverse it. The truck’s brakes allegedly failed during the procedure, forcing it to roll backward and hit Shahzad, who had positioned himself behind it to help.

Rockland Paramedics and the Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps were among the emergency personnel that swiftly came to offer assistance. After being taken to Montefiore Nyack Hospital, Shahzad was declared deceased.

The accident is still being looked into by the Clarkstown Police Department.
