LAREDO, TX Earlier this week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers found 21 pounds of anabolic steroids hidden in a U.S. citizen’s car, marking a big drug arrest at the Texas border. Driver Referred for Secondary Inspection
On Tuesday, December 3, a 25-year-old American driver of a 2012 GMC Terrain was pulled over by CBP authorities at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge in Laredo, Texas. Officers referred the driver and her car for further investigation during a regular inspection.
Officers found 4,760 pills and 10 vials of testosterone and other anabolic drugs concealed inside the car using a canine squad and non-intrusive inspection technologies. The compounds weighed 21 pounds in all.
Anabolic Steroids: A Controlled Substance
Because of their potential for abuse, anabolic steroids are strictly restricted as Schedule III substances under the Controlled Substances Act. In a statement, Port Director Alberto Flores of the Laredo Port of Entry said, “Our frontline CBP officers maintain strict vigilance and their application of inspections experience and technology led to the discovery of a significant amount of steroids deeply hidden within a vehicle.”
