Evansville, A vehicle crashed seven storeys off the parking garage at Bally’s Evansville Casino and Hotel Monday morning in Evansville, Indiana, in a strange and dramatic incident. First responders and specialists on the scene responded quickly after the SUV crashed through the conference center’s ceiling.
Incident Details: SUV Crashes Into Executive Conference Center
According to authorities, the collision occurred at Bally’s Casino, 423 NW Riverside Drive, at approximately 8:30 a.m. The driver of a Ford SUV crashed off the top of the seven-story parking structure and into the roof of the adjacent two-story executive conference building, according to the Evansville Police Department. The car stopped in the elevator lobby on the second floor.
The only person inside the SUV was the driver, who was hurt but whose identity was not made public right away. He was taken by ambulance to Deaconess Midtown Hospital by emergency personnel. There were no other recorded injuries.
After the incident, off-duty firefighters who were at the building for a Koorsen Fire and Safety seminar hurried to help. In order to stop additional dangers, Koorsen, who manages Bally’s fire protection services, moved swiftly to turn off vital building systems.
Damage, Recovery Efforts, and Investigation
The conference center sustained major structural damage as a result of the incident, including flooding from water systems and a sizable hole in the roof. The SUV and a concrete slab will be removed from the damaged structure by a crane later Monday, Evansville Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Gentry told the Evansville Courier and Press.
Despite the tragedy, the hotel and casino were still open. For safety reasons, Bally’s temporarily closed the parking garage, the company said on social media.
The cause of the collision is being looked into. Sgt. Trudy Day of Evansville Police commented on the incident, calling the damage “extensive” and stating that the motorist will probably be charged.
Sgt. Day informed the Courier and Press that water was present everywhere. That wasn’t just a mistake; I’m not sure what was going on with the guy. It required work. I don’t know if he was intoxicated. We’ll find out shortly because I know he’s receiving treatment at the hospital right now.
