Jury delivers guilty verdict in unprovoked Capitol Heights shooting that claimed a grandmother’s life

Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Troy Medley, 39, was convicted by a jury of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Lidia Chinchilla DeCarrillo, 62, in March 2023. DeCarrillo was traveling from El Salvador to Prince George’s County to attend the funeral of her grandson.

Outside of a relative’s house on Drumm Avenue in Capitol Heights, DeCarrillo was sitting in a car with her granddaughter when Medley pulled up in a different automobile and shot the car five times, hitting DeCarrillo in the rear. Despite being taken to the hospital immediately, she passed away from her wounds.

To get the conviction, the prosecution used a mix of scientific evidence, witness statements, video, and photographs. Additionally, Medley was convicted of first-degree assault, possessing a firearm by a prohibited person, and using a firearm in a violent felony.

The precise date of Medley’s sentencing has not yet been set, but it will happen in the upcoming months.
