Boston police arrest 17-year-old with loaded firearm in Mattapan

Boston The Boston Police Department reported that a loaded weapon with a large-capacity magazine found under a car led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male in Mattapan on Wednesday night.

Officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) noticed two people strolling in the center of Stratton Street at around 9:40 p.m. on December 4. The two accelerated their speed in what appeared to be an effort to avoid making contact as authorities got off their cruiser to talk to them.

The two men were halted by officers for interrogation, but after a quick questioning, they were released. Subsequent investigation revealed that one of the suspects was seen putting an unidentified object behind a car as police officers drew closer.

A abandoned Springfield Armory gun with 18 bullets in the magazine and one round in the chamber was found during a follow-up check of the area. The 17-year-old was taken into custody by officers after they located the suspects on Harvard Street.

The minor faces charges of carrying a loaded firearm in public, unlawfully possessing a large-capacity feeding device, unlawfully possessing ammunition, and unlawfully possessing a firearm. The Dorchester District Court is scheduled to arraign him.
