MDA BALTIMORE Significant interruptions were caused in the city by a major fire at a Baltimore, Marylandwood recycling yard. Road restrictions, rail shutdowns, and school closures were all brought on by the fire, which started at Camp Small on Coldspring Lane Thursday night.
Firefighters Battle Wind-Driven Blaze
At Coldspring Lane and Brand Street, the Camp Small yard was the scene of a quickly spreading fire that was attended to by the Baltimore City Fire Department.
According to Fire Chief James Wallace, the fire was difficult to extinguish because of the strong winds that fueled the flames.
When they arrived, they found a rapidly spreading fire spread across a considerable area in a heap of logs and trees. At a press conference, Wallace stated, “This stage is just that, lots of trees, logs, stumps, and things like that.”
Major Disruptions and School Closures
Numerous highways and transportation services were impacted by the fire, which caused extensive disruption throughout Baltimore. After being blocked for a while, Interstate 83 reopened Friday morning.
I-83 has been cleared to reopen, but please exercise care and refrain from slowing down traffic to observe, Mayor Brandon Scott wrote on social media in response to the lingering damage.
Light rail service from North Avenue to Falls Road was also suspended, and Coldspring Lane near the fire scene was closed for some time. Because of the fire’s proximity, two nearby schools, Western High School and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, were closed on Friday.
