Former Kentucky sheriff claims slain judge ran brothel out of chambers, defense cites explosive witness testimony

Louisville, Kentucky.A former Kentucky sheriff who is accused of shooting U.S. District Judge Kevin Mullins dead in his chambers is constructing a defense based on a witness’s assertion in a separate criminal case that the judge ran a brothel out of his courtroom.

Ben Fields, a former deputy sheriff who was found guilty earlier this year of rape, sodomy, lying, and tampering with a prisoner monitoring device, was the subject of the allegations during his investigation. In a police interview, Sabrina Adkins, a witness in the Fields case, claimed that Judge Mullins allowed Fields and others to use his chambers for illegal purposes and traded sexual favors for leniency.

In an audio clip acquired by NewsNation, Adkins stated, “He does have some videotapes of some stuff in the judge’s chambers,” adding, “Just with girls, sexual and stuff.” I’ve partially seen one. In order to avoid jail time, she further claimed that Fields forced her to engage in sexual acts in the judge’s chambers in exchange for interfering with her ankle monitor.

The main focus of Adkins’ civil action, which she filed in January 2022, is her allegations of misbehavior against several authorities, notably Fields and Mullins. In her lawsuit, she described specific incidents where Fields allegedly assaulted her in Mullins’ chambers while posing as an official official. The lawsuit claims that there were no cameras and characterizes the chambers as a private area that was used by the powerful.

Three days before to the deadly shooting, former sheriff Shawn Stines, a close friend of Mullins’ for more than 30 years, was deposed in Adkins’ case, giving the accusations fresh depth. Adkins’ evidence and Fields’ criminal case have been cited by Stines’ lawyer, Jeremy Bartley, as possible defenses for Stines’ acts. This is a big tale. Bartley described the accusations as essential to the defense during a court hearing on November 25 and said, “It’s a story that, in some ways, is difficult to tell.”

Stines is still being held pending trial. Because of the unsettling charges against judges and the potential for corruption in the legal system, the case has garnered national attention.
