Washington, D.C. man killed in single-vehicle crash in Dunkirk




Dunkirk, Md.According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, a 43-year-old male from Washington, D.C., died in a crash involving a GMC Yukon on Monday afternoon.

Around 2:23 p.m., deputies arrived at the scene of the collision near MD Route 4 and Cedarwood Lane. The car, driven by Andrew Francis Evans II, was heading south on MD Route 4 close to Lyons Creek Road when it went off the road and collided with a speed limit sign, according to preliminary investigations.

According to witnesses, the car crossed the grassy center median close to Ashwood Drive after swerving erratically between lanes at a high speed. After that, it started traveling north on Route 4 before crashing into a tree off the road close to Cedarwood Lane.

At the scene, Evans was declared deceased. Investigators think the disaster was caused in part by excessive speed and a potential medical incident.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is examining the scene’s evidence.
