Help is needed to identify suspects in two armed robberies that occurred on Monday, November 11, 2024, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety. Both of these crimes, which included a stolen red Hyundai Sonata, happened within minutes of one another.
Around 6:45 a.m., the first heist took place on McWhorter Street close to Ferry Street. An armed person came out of the Sonata and demanded the possessions of a man. The victim misplaced his backpack, which held his mobile phone, wallet, bank card, and cash. After then, the suspect drove off in the stolen car.
A second person was attacked shortly after that on New Jersey Railroad Avenue close to Lafayette Street. Two suspects exited the Sonata this time, brandished a gun at the victim, and took another rucksack that contained personal items, including a cell phone. The suspects got back into the vehicle, which was being driven by a third accomplice, and took off west on Lafayette Street. The stolen car was later discovered abandoned on South 16th Street.
To aid in the suspects’ identification, police are giving descriptions. Suspect #1 was dressed in tan slacks and a black hooded hoodie. Suspect #2 wore a blue hooded sweatshirt and had a hefty frame and a pronounced bowlegged stance. The driver’s description has not been made public.
