Newark, New Jersey. According to Newark Public Safety Director Emmanuel Miranda, Sr., authorities are requesting the public’s help in identifying a suspect and locating a car involved in an evading incident that happened early Tuesday morning.
A gray Honda Civic with tinted windows and no front license plate was seen coming into an Exxon gas station in the 300 block of Springfield Avenue at around 4:40 a.m. on December 10 by police on patrol near Fairmount and Springfield Avenues. The vehicle’s back license plate, P97NUW, was found to be fake.
At the junction of West Kinney Street and Morris Avenue, cops tried to use lights and sirens to start a motor vehicle stop as the suspect drove away from the gas station. The suspect disobeyed and ran away, first heading south on Irvine Turner Boulevard and then east on West Kinney Street.
Police are looking for any information regarding the location of the car or the name of the culprit. Director Miranda urges anybody with information to call the Police Division’s Crime Stopper tip line, which is open around-the-clock at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Tips may be rewarded and can stay anonymous.
Officers are still searching for the car and its driver as part of the ongoing investigation.
