Columbus police seek video footage in deadly stabbing investigation

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Detectives are asking the public to help them investigate a homicide that happened on the northeast side of the city on Wednesday morning.

At around 7:31 a.m., officers were called to the 1300 block of N. Grant Avenue after receiving a complaint of a male who was unconscious. They discovered Amareyon Daniels, 22, who appeared to have been stabbed. Eight minutes later, at 7:39 a.m., he was declared dead at the scene.

At 7:44 a.m., Courtney Webb took Shavar Johnson to a nearby hospital after he had been shot in the hand. The two reported to detectives that Webb had been attacked by Daniels and that Johnson had been hurt protecting her.

But according to police, their investigation showed that Webb had met Daniels and that Johnson started the assault that killed Daniels. Since then, investigators have accused Johnson of murder and Webb of obstructing justice.

Police are currently looking for security footage of the incident. Any film of Daniels, Johnson, Webb, or the black 2011 Chevrolet HHR Webb was driving—which had the Ohio license plate JMJ-2728—should be uploaded by anyone in the area, according to investigators.
