Farmingdale school board member and crossing guard charged with possessing child sexual abuse materials




New Jersey’s Freehold.Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said Friday that a Farmingdale man who is a crossing guard at a school and a member of the Board of Education has been charged with possessing items related to child sexual abuse.

Following an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Bureau in September 2024, William L. Shaffer, 47, is charged with one count of third-degree possession of child sexual abuse materials.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) received a CyberTip from a cloud-based software firm that sparked the inquiry. Shaffer was found to have been viewing and in possession of the illegal materials.

Members of the MCPO High Tech Bureau and Search Warrant Execution Team (SWET) apprehended Shaffer without incident on Friday morning.
