In just a few days, a guy in Murray, Kentucky, was arrested twice for allegedly riding a mule while intoxicated. Both the public and the police were concerned about the strange sequence of events that started on Saturday night and continued into Monday.
Incident at Local Alcohol Establishment
Officers from the Murray Police Department were called to a nearby bar at 9:09 p.m. on Saturday to deal with a rowdy patron. Murray resident Jonathan Mason, 39, had been asked to leave but had refused.
Officers discovered Mason outside the establishment, obviously drunk. Mason disregarded an officer’s order to stop and rode a mule to the facility, according to police reports. Mason resisted the attempts of the officers to arrest him.
Witnesses at another place claimed that Mason had abused the mule by giving it heavy whippings. This sparked worries regarding the welfare of the animal.
Charges and First Arrest
Mason was taken into custody on a number of counts, including second-degree animal cruelty, third-degree criminal trespassing, alcohol intoxication in a public setting, and second-degree disorderly conduct. Mason was taken to Calloway County Jail, and the mule was moved to a stable for protection.
Second Arrest on Monday
Mason’s problems persisted Monday. An inebriated man was reported riding a mule on a Murray road at 12:51 p.m., prompting police to arrive. Mason raced down the road after being told to stop by officers after they discovered him riding the same mule. He was arrested once more following a short pursuit.
