Md. Beltsville. A Fort Washington man was taken into custody by Maryland State Police on Friday for allegedly trying to get sex with an undercover agent in Prince George’s County who was pretending to be a juvenile.
Santos Carranza, 47, faces one count of second-degree attempted rape and one count of sexual solicitation of a juvenile. The Prince George’s County Department of Corrections is holding him without bond.
Carranza was arrested Wednesday afternoon in a Beltsville retail area, according to the police. A coordinated effort between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Prince George’s County Police Department resulted in the arrest.
The preliminary inquiry found that Carranza exchanged improper text messages with a person he thought was a male 15-year-old on December 11. In reality, the person was a police undercover agent carrying out a sting operation.
Although police could not specify if Carranza was a U.S. citizen, his arrest highlights continued efforts by law enforcement to prevent the exploitation of children.
