The pattern’s most recent heist happened on November 5 at around 4:00 a.m. close to 1490 Sheridan Boulevard. Two defendants in this case are accused of putting a 37-year-old man in a chokehold, brandishing a knife, and stealing $300 in cash, his wallet, and his cellphone. The victim was hospitalized in stable condition at Montefiore Medical Center after suffering minor injuries.
Weapons were used in a number of situations, such as the one reported on September 1 at around 2:00 a.m., when suspects snatched a chain from a 44-year-old man near Bronx River Parkway and East 172nd Street and flashed a firearm. A group robbed a 27-year-old guy of his cellphone and headphones near Sheridan Boulevard and East 172nd Street earlier that same morning at 1:30 a.m. by impersonating a gun.
The suspects frequently escaped on foot or on stolen bicycles, according to the authorities. On October 7, a suspect robbed a 19-year-old victim of his bike and smartphone while brandishing a knife. The suspect then rode off on the stolen bike in the direction of Sheridan Boulevard.
The NYPD is still looking into the trend and has made public surveillance photos of at least one person thought to be involved in these occurrences. Anyone with information is urged by officials to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline.
