The weather patterns over the past few days suggest that summer is far from done. The final week of August will see highs in the triple digits and higher 90s. As we approach Labor Day, a little change this weekend will be a welcome relief from the sweltering summer weather.
Highs in the valley will reach triple digits into the upper 90s on Thursday and Friday, making it a toasty end to the week. Even though the highs won’t dip below 100 degrees until Friday, afternoon highs will remain in the upper 90s in Sacramento.
Expect mostly sunny skies with a light breeze for the next several days, with some cloud cover along the shore.
Winds that are breezy will be back every afternoon, with the Delta seeing the heaviest gusts of 15–25 mph.
For the last several days, heat has remained where it is due to an area of high pressure. On Saturday, this high will shift to the east, making way for a coastal low-pressure system to approach.
We can expect colder weather, more frequent Delta breezes, and an upper-level low to move east over Northern California this weekend, making it perfect timing for Labor Day.
Several showers and isolated thunderstorms over the upper Sierra may be on the way as this feature advances inland. If you want to be sure of a storm, you should stay south of Highway 50. A thunderstorm’s potential features include strong gusts, short periods of heavy rain, lightning, and possibly tiny hail. If you’re planning to spend Labor Day in the mountains, be sure to keep a watch on the weather forecast.
Highs from the Delta to the Sierra will be lower than usual on Sunday as the area dries up and the sun comes out again.
Highs in the valley will reach the mid-80s, while those in the foothills will reach the low 80s, and those across the Sierra will reach the low 70s, making Sunday and Monday perfect days to enjoy the outdoors with loved ones.
