Worcester, Massachusetts. The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday that a grand jury in Worcester County had indicted 17-year-old Kayden M. Keane Hoffler on a murder charge related to the April 2024 shooting death of 19-year-old Eathan Renteria.
Around 9 p.m. on April 30, Worcester Police were called to a complaint of an automobile colliding with a Paine Street residence. While inside the car, officers found Renteria, who had been shot. Before passing away on May 16 from his wounds, Renteria spent over three weeks in the hospital.
Hoffler, who is also from Worcester, was taken into custody on May 8 and was first charged with firearms violations and armed assault to murder in juvenile court. Hoffler was arraigned in Worcester Central District Court on October 1 after the case progressed to a murder accusation.
After months of inquiry, the murder indictment was delivered on December 20. Officials have not provided any additional information regarding the case or the possible reason behind the shooting.
In a statement, District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr. noted that this indictment is the next step in pursuing justice for Eathan Renteria and his family.
