Parents sue Howell Township Schools and bus company after aide accused of hitting autistic boy

New Jersey’s Howell Township. The parents of a youngster with autism who is nonverbal have sued the Howell Township School District, First Student, a private bus company, and others, claiming that their son was hurt and crying after being struck by a bus aide who was using a trash-grabber tool.

The youngster was riding the bus home from school on March 13, 2024, according to the lawsuit, which was filed on January 3. According to reports, the bus’s video tape showed the assistant, Quinton Schwartz, striking the boy, cutting him, leaving him bleeding and crying when he was left off.

Additionally, according to the lawsuit, Schwartz and the bus driver made up reports that the kid had gotten into a fight with another student on the bus. Additionally, it charges the school district of retaliating against the boy following the event and failing to safeguard him.

According to state court documents, Schwartz is accused of endangering the welfare of a child, and the matter is presently pending in Monmouth County Superior Court.

First Student, which often offers school districts specialized busing services, and the Howell Township School District have not responded to the claims or the ongoing legal action.
