New Jersey’s East Rutherford.According to authorities, a man from Rutherford was detained and charged with several crimes, including aggravated arson, after he allegedly set fire to an East Rutherford hotel room on Thursday morning.
After an investigation by the East Rutherford Police Department and the Major Crimes Unit of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Vicente Carabello, 55, was placed under arrest.
Carabello is suspected of lighting a room on fire at the Fairfield Inn hotel following an altercation with hotel employees, and police and firefighters were called to the scene at approximately 11:24 a.m.
According to officials, Carabello attacked a hotel employee as he ran away from the scene before police could arrive. The worker was slightly hurt.
The hotel’s sprinkler system was triggered by the incident, resulting in property damage but no reported injuries. Detectives eventually found Carabello and took him into custody.
